Land of the Long Flat White

Coffee Culture in Aotearoa New Zealand

This has been a fav of mine for a while now. Every time I get to ChCh this is a must stop for me. Located at the start (end) of High Street towards the polytech and across from the Jazz School, it's a brilliant location. It's a very cool part of town to be in these days, with the hugely popular Poplar Lane just down the road, High St has a number of great little coffee shops, catering for all styles, including the new(ish) Mackenzie and Willis store cafe. Also if you are stopping into Alice in Videoland you need to add 10 minutes to sneak a coffee in at the Savoy Brown (1 minute walk away).

The Savoy Brown roasts their own beans, and are consistently rich. The food is a great selection of over the counter stuff, and a smallish menu board. The range of food is great though for such a small place, and my boys can account for the small chocolate cakes.

I love their flat whites, the crema is firm and rich (can't stand foam/crema that disappears after 30 seconds, or the second you add the sugar and stir once).

Also look out for the great art work on the walls, go on get your wallet out. From what I could tell, no wi-fi is the only downer in the place.
